Contemporary research has determined a strong correlation between employee engagement, productivity, and financial performance.  Findings have shown that engaged employees are more productive, more motivated, and more satisfied, leading to improved financial performance.

Factors Influencing Employee Satisfaction and Engagement

In a study conducted by the Forum for People Performance Management and Measurement eight drivers of employee satisfaction and engagement were evaluated and ranked in importance.  Another important factor in employee satisfaction, “opportunities for growth and career advancement”, was not included in their research.  The eight drivers evaluated are listed below in rank order.

1)  An expressed intention to remain with an organization

2)  The variety of skills and competencies their job requires

3)  The organization's commitment to satisfying customers

4)  The amount of cooperation within and across functions

5)  Consistent communication regarding roles and expectations

6)  Training to improve their contributions to the organization

7)  Freedom and discretion in their jobs and access to resources and information

8)  Competent, expert managers who are open to ideas of their employees
